Wow! As if all the things Steffy has said we're not enough. Steffy now has to gloat. Completely heartless. Douglas obviously prompted with phrases to hurt Hope who stepped up & was a loving mother to Douglas. It was all cruel to Hope. What about Beth? Like Douglas, I am sure she wants her parents to be a happy family, too. Both kids cannot have that dream come true.

DeleteRenee, that end bit with Steffy was classic Stephanie Forrester! She always gloated at Brooke whenever she got her way with pushing Brooke out. It never lasted for long though. And I am sure this Thope breakup won't last very long either. Steffy will have to lap back up all of the vomit she spewed, just like Stephanie had to many times over.

Is a big step for Thomas realizing he needs to cut Hope out of his life/heart. Is for the better in the long run.
Douglas should not have been coached to say those things to Hope. He is a child. If Hope & Thomas were engaged, then he should have been told that news. He did not need to know that Daddy proposed again & Hope wasn't ready for marriage again. Spare the child the drama of adult problems.
DeleteI don't think he was coached. When his dad broke the news, he probably asked a lot of questions and Thomas simply responded. Douglas has always been intelligent beyond his years. He internalized those responses he got from his dad and came to his own conclusions. For example, I am certain Thomas would not have told Douglas that Hope is not his mother, that Caroline is. I am also certain that Thomas would not have told Douglas that Hope doesn't love them. Douglas would have said that based on how he's feeling. When parents go through divorce, the kids always think it's because of them not being good enough.

What brought a tear to my eye, was when he said, are Dad and I not good enough (something along those lines). He doesn't understand fully on the grown ups perspective of things. He even told Steffy today that he won’t have her bashing Hope!! So no, Douglas was not coached.. As Elle said, Douglas is wise beyond his years, and he internalises his feelings.. Douglas is hurting, and kids sometimes have no filter.. I think he said what he said about Caroline to make the point that Thomas and Douglas were good enough for Caroline, so why not Hope!! He had his hopes up too, not just Thomas..

The right way to have handled that would have been Thomas and Hope explaining things to Douglas together. Thomas is already going back to his old ways by manipulating his son. DeleteBecause unless Douglas has Thomas wired, as in actually ‘wearing a wire’, there is no possible way Douglas would have known what he knew. He literally said phrases exactly as Thomas has said them to Hope. You think that was all coincidence?? He said the words…..my dad told me what happened. It was Thomas’ version of the story….which we know from past experience with Thomas….is usually a very lopsided version of the story. Thomas became the victim in Thomas’ story, because Thomas is ALWAYS the victim.

DeleteI don’t think the two things are mutually exclusive. Both can be true at the same time. I think Douglas telling Hope that his mom was dead was horribly hurtful. And unless Thomas made Hope out to be the villain in the situation (in as much as it would be necessary to paint himself as the victim), Douglas would have never said something so hurtful to Hope.
DeleteI truly believe this is going to be a difficult issue for Douglas. He is moving out of the home he has been raised in for a long time with Hope as the steady adult figure on the regular daily basis. Yes Thomas has been there but doesn’t live there and hasn’t been there as long. Douglas has a relationship with Beth as they are growing up together in the same home, so being separated for who knows how long again can be a problem.

Even grownups are being manipulated on daily basis (look at Thomas running away at Steffy's command), what's left for a little boy who is totally dependent on his dad and always wanted to believe he is a good man. No matter how smart he is, he's not immune especially in this situation.

He simply would not villainize her, especially to Douglas who he knows also loves Hope. And he certainly would not all of a sudden tell Douglas that Hope is not his mother. And given the past when Thomas tried to get Douglas to support his bad behavior, Douglas did not go along with it. He always told the truth. So why would he suddenly go along with this?
DeleteI think this is just a case of you and others trying to prove that Thomas has not changed, even without knowing the discussion he had with Douglas. Douglas is a very smart kid and he's hurting too. He's feeling like he and his dad are not good enough for Hope and that's where all that he said is coming from.
Because Thomas is a master manipulator. And that’s exactly what he’s doing now. He wants everyone on his side and to feel like he’s the victim here.

DeleteElle a truly invested dad wouldn't have had this conversation with Douglas alone in the first place. In the second - IF he did he would make a very big, clear point that the mom loves him, that nothing for him changes in terms of love and that he IS good enough for Hope. Douglas and Thomas are not a package deal. When parents can't be together (especially in this case when they never were) anymore, that's how you talk to children and ensure they know it is not about them and they will always be loved no matter who is married to whom. Douglas coming to Hope with such words we've never heard from him, they did not come to him in the hours since Thomas spoke to him.

This is not protecting your Child from heartbreak and instead uses him to force reactions from others.
This time he used him to punish Hope and make sure Douglas will leave with him.
Another thing when Douglas entered the Forrester office Thomas asked him if he talked to Hope and not mom. That was very telling. Hope doesn't want to be his wife so he is talking Douglas away.
Hope see's Douglas as a son since many years. Now Thomas is Douglas's hero because he does the bare minimum and doesn't abuse him.
but Hope is the bad one.
If Hope won't see how cruel Thomas is to her right now and she will just blame Steffy then she's dumb.
Steffy is horrible for all the nasty things she says, but Thomas made all of the latest decisions on his own. He is cruel because he doesn't have a heart and not because Steffy made him do it.
Or if steffy made him do it the he is only a puppet and she can move him as she pleases and still not a good thing,
Being objective about Thomas has nothing to do with this. I disagreed about Douglas being coached by his dad based on the PROBABILITY of what the discussion between Thomas and Douglas must have been like, then tied it to the changes we've all seen in Thomas over the past year.

For all we know, Steffy could have been the one that poisoned Douglas against his mother. I can tell you, I certainly would quicker believe Steffy telling Douglas that Hope is not his mother more than I would believe Thomas did.
I know that you and other Thope/Thomas non-fans have been chomping at the bits for the old Thomas to return. I didn't think however, that you would create an entirely false scenario just to support your claim that Thomas is still the same manipulating psycho he's always been. Tsk Tsk.

And your ability to be objective about Thomas is critical if you are able to evaluate him as a human being. But you are the female version of Ridge it seems. And he can do no wrong in your eyes. Your clear bias is clouding your judgement of Thomas.
The only dialogue that we heard on the show was that Thomas had had a talk with Douglas. There was zero mention of Steffy having talked to him.
If you can’t see the clear similarities in the way the events were described by Thomas and Douglas, then we should stop talking about this now. Because you are not being objective.

Remember, Brooke was very instrumental in getting Douglas away from Thomas and in Hope's care. She planned the whole thing, inclusive of having the adoption papers drawn up then told Hope to have dinner with Thomas and basically "play nice" to get him to sign them. So, of course she's shocked now. This is why I don't understand when it is said that Brooke doesn't want to get involved. She ALWAYS involves herself. I listened to Hope today crying to her mom about Thomas leaving her and I was in utter shock that Brooke was speechless! When has she ever been? 🤣🤣

Hope is among my least favorite persons right now but I do feel for her - first Thomas, now Douglas. And the moment with Caroline was just unnecessary. Steffy is right there on the list, but she didn't break them up. Thomas of all people is stubborn, he was after Hope (for years) when she couldn't stand him and nobody could convince him otherwise (and I assume many a shrink tried), so he could have stayed with her. Steffy didn't put a gun to his head.

DeleteThe Forresters are toxic. When I was Steffy’s age, I would never have considered speaking so disrespectfully to my elders. She has been acting so incredibly vindictive, childish, resentful, controlling, angry, and bitter…..that it’s hard for even me to believe how horrible she’s gotten.
Ridge should marry his daughter. He clearly has more respect for her than he does for Brooke. Brooke has been so passive lately and allowed herself to be unnecessarily trashed, and that’s not who she is. She needs to start swinging back. It is gonna be the Forresters against the Logans in days ahead. And Hope is gonna lead that train.

I hadn't thought about it but even his voice sounded like he was parroting something he was told. Douglas would never be cruel to Hope who he himself begged to become his mom and has treated like such for all these years no matter that she was with Liam and made it crystal clear that Thomas was not going to be her husband. If she had given the boy now another impression like talking about the proposal and a possibility to say yes, that's cruel. But I can rather imagine Thomas filling his head with such ideas and the little man buying it, regardless of history.

Yes I can absolutely see Hope developing some connection with Finn to drive Steffy bonkers. I still am not sure it will go to any non-platonic place but any type of connection would be enough to start the war.
DeleteI think with Thomas gone, Hope will be off-screen for a while too. Both she and Thomas have been front and centre for some time now. When they return, it would probably be with Hope running to Paris to find Thomas and Douglas to tell them that she wants a real (as in marriage) family with them.

ReplyDeleteI think the glaring answer to all the confusion about why Hope turned down the proposal comes down to her wanting her cake and wanting to eat it too. She wants a family with Thomas and Douglas but she also wants her independence. Based on that, I think Thomas did the right thing. He needed to walk away.
And how sweet is Douglas wanting to be there for his dad. Loved when he told Hope that his dad has had it really rough but persevered and he (Douglas) now sees him as his hero. Douglas has always been so loyal to Thomas.

Poor little Douglas. He’s a glutton for punishment. And he definitely wasn’t loyal to Thomas when Thomas blamed Douglas for the CPS call. I remember Douglas wanting absolutely nothing to do with Thomas.

Plus, while I understand that his mental well-being is more important, someone would have asked about his role as a designer at FC. There were basically no questions asked "where are you going to live in Paris, how is this going to affect Douglas", just "oh ok, goodbye Thomas". While I hate them always dragging everything out, this went over too smoothly to be realistic.

DeleteLynn, you should know by now that I don't get involved in this type of silliness about who belongs to who or who is second best. People fall in and out of love all the time and move on in other relationships. I will never understand the notion of a character being with one person and anyone else who comes after that person is somehow second best. I do not care about Liam.

Wednesday 27th March 2024 episode. First minute of the show. This was after it was established that Hope loves Thomas ergo, the love Hope feels for Thomas is unlike the love she has felt for anyone else. It doesn't mean it's a better love, secondary love, rebound love.... It's just a different love.
Now I know you're someone who likes to keep score and likes to go to battle about being right. Others have observed it as well. However, unlike what you've said "You wanted fairytale romance and that is definitely not where this has landed," that is not what I wanted. I've been watching soaps for far too long to know that it's not possible. I've always said that I wanted them to be together because they have such a complex (not fairytale) history, that they would be on fire together. I've also said that Hope would come to love Thomas at some point and felt that she had already loved him since she told Liam that the cabin was no longer his home. This is while you and others were so laser focused on Hope saying "I love you for that" without realizing that she had stepped up from saying "I don't know if I can love another man." That was a huge step! So yes, I did get what I wanted and I was right about Hope loving Thomas. As for "Hope not loving Thomas enough, I'm pretty certain you'll be wrong about that too. I'm also certain that when that happens, you'll come up with something else to disprove the love Hope feels for Thomas because it's what you do.
Elle, for someone who just pointed out that I “like to be right and keep score”, you sure have done a lot of that yourself in recent comments. So maybe point that finger back at yourself before pointing your finger my way.

Bottom line is this, doesn’t look like there is going to be a “Thope” or wedding bells or a new ‘destiny couple’ anytime soon. So what exactly have you been right about??
Thomas loves Hope more than she loves him. And that will never change. She stood there like the cat who just got caught swallowing the canary as Thomas accused her of that. None of this has ever been about Thomas’ actual happiness. It’s always been about what Thomas can do for Hope and how he makes HER feel. Like she is the queen of the world and his job is to make sure the queen always feels like a queen should - and to hell with his needs or feelings or how important he feels in any of this. Her exact words were….”I need you, Thomas!!” Not….”I want you, Thomas.” She NEEDS him to continue to make her line successful. And she needs him to keep making her feel like she is the only woman on the planet.
What about his ‘needs’ ?? Like he said…..the first time she uttered the words “I love you” were after he had just dumped her!! How sad and pathetic is that???!!!! He knows exactly how sad and pathetic it is because he told her!!!
Sorry, but you haven’t been right about any of this other than the fact that they ultimately had a ‘relationship’. But she definitely has used him. Not with malicious intent like Steffy said, but she still has used him because she assumed “he would always be there for her” to tend to her every want, desire and need. But that’s not real love, Elle. So no, you haven’t been right. And we’re about to see Hope and Finn start to develop a growing / deepening bond. So stay tuned for me to tell you how wrong you were, since that’s all I like to do….according to you. Lol.
Oh and there is definitely no “ergo, the love she feels for him is like a love she has never felt for anyone else.” That made me laugh out loud! Exactly the opposite is true. Like I said, you are clearly missing the distinction. If what you saying were true she would have accepted that ring in a heartbeat! But she couldn’t even accept it with the condition of a timeline. She simply couldn’t bring herself to put it on her finger, even with the threat of losing her son! Not sure how much clearer it gets than that, Elle.

DeleteAnd it's always interesting to me whenever you quote Thomas as a beacon of truth after saying so many times that all he does is lie. 😂 😂 😂 Thomas was hurt and said things out of that hurt however, he has not denied that Hope loves him because, according to him, he always knew she did. 😂
Elle, you aren’t hearing what I’m saying…..I said Hope did not treat Thomas with malicious intent as Steffy thinks. But the result for Thomas is still the same. Hope uses him for her own personal pleasure, even if she didn’t truly realize it until he pointed it out.

Just to add my 2 cents. The last 2 episodes have shown some powerful acting and decent well written monologues. I guess for those Thomas haters, besides being distraught from Hopes rejection on his proposal,. he has asked some hard questions prompted by his aggressive bitch of a sister. He didn't go off the rails or psycho as I'm sure some of you are disappointed about. He wants Hope to want him as much as he wants her.All in and she is not. I got it she barely out of her last marriage and wants some time. Fair enough.So sadly maybe it time for some self reflection for both of them. They just weren't at the same level. As for Douglas , he's a wise advanced boy and if he feels he wants to be with his Dad then he should be.
