Sheila looks like she wants to devour Deacon. .The problem for Bill with a trance is he can't get it up. . Maybe Douglas asked for foster care the way the grown ups look.
Bill and Deacon sort of fought when Bill went to assert himself about Brooke. Then Bill did the stupidest thing throwing fake money with his stoopit face on it at Deacon. So Bill wants to fight over every woman and have a harem. Bill has the shortest attention span when it comes to women. He carries monoply-type money, not valued anywhere.
I wasn't too surprised but suprised at Douglas's decision. Remember a few weeks ago he was playing with Kelly at Steffy's and Liam came to pick him up? All the comments about the look he kept giving Liam and didn't want to leave? He really enjoyed himself there but so far I've only seen that one scene so unless he has been there alot more than we see it could be a bad decision.
Little Douglas reminds me of the little boy on the Cadbury dairy milk and the Ikea with the troll commercials. He never says a word but is brilliant at emotive expressions. They're both brilliant little actors. You just want to hug them. 🫂
@D Yes, I did see the episode where Liam went to pick up Douglas from Steffy's, but I really didn't think anything of that. I guess deep down he was started liking Finn and Steffy, he probably got into to liking Finn better than Liam.
D, I was thinking exactly the same thing.. He didn’t want to go home, he wanted to stay at steffy’s and he was giving Liam a funny look.. So was surprised, but also not surprised at the same time.. I have to give it to Douglas, he is a really smart kid!! Also, the actor that plays his character is an awesome actor!!
With all of her premature excitement about having sole custody of Douglas and her husband's obsession about bad Thomas, I guess the thought never occurred to them that Douglas might change his mind about wanting to live with them.
I think if I were Douglas, l would rather live in a house that was much larger than that small cottage where Hope and Liam are always fighting over my dad. He feels his aunt’s home is by the beach and they aren’t always fighting or bad mouthing his dad and he has a playmate with Kelly.
I agree Roseam. Douglas has looked at his situation from every angle. He loves his dad so much but he also loves his mom. And as much as he wanted them to be a family together, he realizes that is not going to happen. He has shown quite blatantly that he is not a fan of Liam's. I think Douglas believes that living with his aunt would be the least stressful situation for him. I applaud him for his insight and intelligence. And both his parents said that they trust in his judgement. Douglas also has the added advantage of forming a close relationship with his cousins.
I’m confused about the material things comment… Hope and Liam both have massive trust funds on top of their salaries. Hope chooses to live in the cabin on her mum’s estate. There is a swimming pool, tennis courts etc and they have access to Brooke’s staff. They are not exactly indigent.
Thomas was in a pokey flat that Paris took over the lease on. The Forrester estate is lovely but so is Brooke’s.
One big difference in Auntie’s house is it is bright, the whole atmosphere is better. He’s not hearing grownups fighting about his father spending time with him, or being jubilant because they will win and have him to themselves etc.
There was always a push pull between Hope, Liam, Thomas and Douglas.
He’s not a prize to win over the other party and unfortunately that is what Thomas and Hope have made him. I’m not saying it’s intentional by either side but he’s very much been made piggy in the middle. Liam and Thomas despise each other and Douglas is well aware of that. He’s a bright lad and all the tension between Hope, Liam, Thomas and their families has be a huge stressor for a young child.
Honestly Finn and Steffy have been a neutral ground for Douglas. They open their home and he did actually stay over there previously. Beth is always welcome as Kelly’s sister and another cousin as well as his sister by merit of Hope adopting him… so he would see her.
It really feels like it would be more of a safe base for him to then visit either parent, extended family etc then return to neutral territory.
Again Auntie Steffy and Uncle Fin. stood up for him and encouraged him to be brave and honest. He can trust them … I don’t see a better choice for him honestly.

What a pathetic storyline of Doughlas choosing neither Thomas nor Hope. No credibility and no build up to this. Wonder who surveyed the public and figured these sudden unpredictable twists in the plot (like Sheila and Bill ending up together overnight) are the way to go. Please hire some new actors and expand!!!
That's what most of us have been wondering for years - how do they come up with such idiotic storylines? Douglas going for Steffy after spending time with his cousins, to hell with the woman who took care of him in the hardest time of his life and put up with all kinds of insanity from his dad only for his sake. He's mature enough to understand this and that but then suddenly turning his back on Hope. And not for his dad (which would be kinda understandable) but for Steffy. Ugh 🤦🏻♀️
I am certain that Douglas' decision was, in fact, for his dad. He realizes that when he is at his Aunt Steffy's, he will be able to spend time with his dad without Liam and Hope breathing down their necks.
Elle, I wouldn’t be so sure. I think Douglas chose Steffy’s because it felt neutral to him. His dad and adoptive mom both plead their cases, and I’m sure Douglas felt like his choice consisted of disappointing one or the other. And Douglas just didn’t want to have to hurt either. Choosing Steffy gave him an out. Plus like we’ve all mentioned, he seemed really happy at Steffy’s the other day and didn’t want to leave. Douglas still isn’t happy about what Thomas did regarding the CPS call, but he loves his dad just the same. Hope has been a great mom, but choosing Hope over his dad was going to be hard for Douglas. The only reason Hope was “breathing down Thomas’ neck” was because of what Thomas put Douglas through recently with the lies and manipulations / throwing his own kid under the bus in an effort to save himself. If I were Hope, I’d be doing supervised visits as well!

Boah Douglas broke his mom's heart :( where did that come from? I mean it was obvious he likes it there but it's one thing to have fun around his cousins and aunt, another to turn your back on your mom for it... A bit disappointed.
My theory is that he just likes a nice house 😂 he was having fun at Eric's, now at Steffy's. Hope needs a less creepy house. But seriously I'm a bit lost. The only explanation that makes sense is that he realized that by living with his cousins both his parents would have equal access to him. Steffy already has enough on her plate with the two kids she already has, a full time career, and this crap that’s going on with Sheila, Bill, and Taylor. Besides…she should not agree to anything without talking it over with Finn first. Oh, I’m sure Finn will go along with it…but he may not be happy with having Douglas living there full time. I know when Douglas was there the other day for a play date and didn’t want to go home, Finn said he was welcome there any time. But being welcome to come over for a play date and actually having the kid living there full time and being responsible are vastly different things! This situation might end up being the breaking point for their marriage. I also wonder how the rest of the family is going to take it? Especially Brooke and Taylor. This may be something that will really test their newly formed friendship/alliance. Or who knows…they might both think it’s great. Hard to tell. I’m sure Taylor will feel sorry for Thomas and Brooke will feel badly for Hope and Liam, but we shall see if the two grandmas can keep themselves from interfering.

Thomas and Douglas are like day and night. Totally different personality types. Even Thomas admitted as much in front of the judge! And thank goodness! We like Douglas sweet, honest and ethical! Thomas lacks those qualities!
Douglas is just tired of that dark little cabin. It can't be very big. Does he have to share a room with Beth? Steffy has a nice big house by the ocean. Maybe Douglas just wants his own room, and an actual house.
Ren Chen, I think Douglas sees Steffy, Finn and his cousins as the most stable environment for him right now in terms of maintaining a relationship with his dad. He saw how Liam and Hope were just sitting there looking at them when he had that last visit with his dad. Even Thomas (sarcastically) thanked Hope for the supervised visit with his son. That had to be uncomfortable for Douglas.
What you probably meant to ask was how DARE they? Like they are perfect. Hope was quite willing to cover up her mother's lie by asking her son to lie about not seeing what he saw. She even went so far as to rip him away from his family just so he did not tell anyone what he saw. And Liam was sitting in a jail cell not too long ago. Stellar examples for sure.

That's exactly how I saw it. Douglas is a smart kid and he knew that his mom would want to dictate when he can and cannot see his dad. He may love his mom but he saw right through her. He probably even overheard her the night before gushing about having sole custody.
Going to live with Steffy is not really an option unless both parents give custodial rights to Steffy. Granting Steffy custodial rights was not on the document. So, now all 3 parties would have to agree. Of course, Finn needs to weigh in on it.
Sorry but Douglas was asked with who he wants to live with and he chose Steffy - his blood!!! Kelly and the baby boy are his FIRST cousins. Beth is NOT his sister. Hope is NOT his mother and Liam has never been a father to his daughter Kelly and definitively NOT Douglas's father! Caroline was, is and will always be Douglas's mother and should be remembered that way! That is my opinion whatsoever!

@Renee The judge said that both parents had already signed the custody papers giving sole custody to whomever Douglas chose. There was just a blank space on the document to be filled in once Douglas chose. So, they have, in fact, signed over custodial rights to Steffy since her name is going on the document that they had both already signed.

At no time did I hear anyone say (which was very clever of the writers) that Douglas had to choose either Thomas or Hope. They kept saying that Douglas had the choice as to where he wanted to live. Given their speeches and both saying that they hope Douglas chose them, it was assumed by both Thomas and Hope that Douglas would choose one of his parents but not even the judge said that Douglas had to choose his mom or his dad. She explained that they both signed the papers agreeing to whatever decision Douglas made. Steffy was his decision and their signatures agreed on that decision. Steffy now had sole custody of Douglas.

Caroline won’t be able to do much mothering from the grave. Hope IS Douglas’ adoptive mother. End of story. We’ve all had this adoption conversation before. Blood alone does equate to someone being a better parent. Adoptive parents are just as “real” to a child. Let’s take Finn as an example who was raised by Li. Finn absolutely sees Li as his mother. Certainly NOT the witch who gave birth to him…evil Sheila. Thomas has proven multiple times he doesn’t always have his son’s best interest at heart. I doubt this Douglas living with Steffy and Finn is gonna last long, if it even happens at all. Hope has proven to be an excellent MOTHER to Douglas!
Did everyone forget that Hope was too busy with Hope for the future, and the kids were never shown and always being taken care of by Aunt Donna. This went on for months at a time!!
Everyone seems to forget that Caroline was a cousin to Bill and Liam is Bill’s son making Liam also a distant cousin to Douglas. This never comes up in the show. However, wishy, washy Liam only wanted him to live with them to get one over on Thomas.
But we actually see Kelly and Hayes at home with Finn and Steffy (because y'all always complain about changing the wee actress). When was the last time we saw Beth?
We saw Beth around the same time we saw creepy Kelly with the one exception of that time Douglas was leaving their house and Steffy wasn't there. And besides, us seeing any of them is no indication of which mom spends how much time with which kid. We see Steffy mostly slobbering over Finn, not much parenting is shown there.

Oh sorry Mmysh I didn't mean she's ugly (her appearance is of a normal child) it's mostly her voice that gives me the creeps 😂🙈 I know it's not easy to replace a character. I just have the feeling they had at some point a more suitable child for the role.

Colly, Elle I agree. Mmysh as a child he's living in tension (kids pick up on that very easily) everyday with Hope and he's not comfortable living like that anymore. Yet he's not old enough to rationalize the impact on adults.

Mmysh exactly. It's just bad writing making Douglas act like that. He's smart enough to feel all kinds of tensions but not decent enough to realize he essentially lied to his mom and broke her heart by not giving her any sign he would "choose" Steffy. That's not Douglas.

And he did not lie to Hope. Hope specifically asked him if he would rather stay 'here' with Liam and her (as in the cabin) or with his dad who she knew was looking for his own home. I thought that Hope was being quite disingenuous and a little manipulative when she asked that of Douglas. In that moment, Douglas said he would prefer to stay there. But the judge explained it a lot better when she told Douglas that it would be his choice as to where he wants to live and that both his parents have already signed the papers because they trust his choice. They also both said that they would not be mad at him for whatever decision he made. Based on this, Douglas gave his true and honest response based on how he felt.
Douglas knows that there is tension between his dad and Hope and he knows that he is uncomfortable with the things his dad does from time to time. However, he felt quite comfortable at Aunt Steffy's with his cousins and did not want to leave. It doesn't make him ungrateful or forgetful.
But I have a feeling that people are upset because they wanted Thomas to lose and Hope to win. And since most on here do not like Steffy, Douglas choosing her is a hard pill to swallow.

Elle didn't you hear what Hope explained to Douglas or are you purposefully pretending? Hope said the exact same thing that in his heart of hearts, who would he rather live with his dad or there with them. And he answered without showing any doubt or discomfort - here. Previously when asked if he wants to live with Thomas (at Eric's) or there with Hope and Liam, he was uncomfortable and admitted (knowing he's hurting them) - with his dad. Now there was no comparison, no doubt which makes it that weird. Douglas doesn't need a judge to explain to him the situation. You can spin it as much as you want that it means he can go live with the Pope if that's his wish, but it doesn't. It means with Thomas or with Hope. Him now going completely new direction with Steffy is hurtful to his mother (considering their conversation) and idiotic plot-wise.

Colly I have to agree with you. Douglas was put in a lose lose situation. He clearly knows and feels the aggression and tension between Liam and Thomas. Liam had been very vocal and Douglas has to have heard it.
Douglas has always expressed that he wanted mummy Hope to be with his daddy. He thought they would be a family.
Does he love Hope, yes. Does he love his father Thomas? Yes
He knows from experience that one of them will be hurt if he chooses one over the other. He also experienced living with one and being pressured to go to the home of the other.
I keep thinking of when Liam went to Eric’s and demanded Douglas go back to the cabin.
Douglas has stayed over at his Auntie’s home. He loved being with his extended family which was not happening when he lived with Hope and Liam.
It has to be confusing that Kelly is his cousin except when he’s with mum and then she’s his stepsister?? Beth is his cousin since she’s half sister to Kelly, but his baby sister when he’s with Hope.
Also, looking at history, Auntie Steffy was there for him when Brooke, Liam and Hope wanted him to keep secrets from his family. She was also there for him and stood up for him at her parents’ wedding, when Thomas was again trying to make him keep secrets that hurt others.
Douglas may feel the only way he can be safe and have a relationship with both parents and their families is at Auntie Steffy’s.
She has a bright, warm loving home with two cousins and Uncle Finn whom he adores.

As mentioned by Colly, Elle and PP, He was given two choices by Hope, live with dad or live with me. He chose the lesser of the evils there.
The judge gave him the choice to choose where and with whom he lived and had making decisions about his future.
He had more choices then. He could have chosen his grannies etc. He chose the place he thought he would be happiest. He’s 10 what does one expect?
Honestly I think Hope and Thomas were both selfish putting a young child in a position to chose for the rest of his minor life… that’s horrible and he’s stuck with it once it’s done.

Like I said before, it was an assumption that Douglas would choose to live with either Thomas or Hope because they are his parents. The judge saying "one of which he will choose to live with" was not a choice that was purposely directed to Douglas by the judge. She did not tell Douglas that he had to choose either between his father or his mother. She was just assuming that Douglas' choice would be one of his parents just like everyone else assumed.
Anonymous, Elle, well said Ladies!! Douglas has been put in a very , very, difficult position.. He is not ungrateful, that’s absurd to say?? Ridiculous!! He is a very young child, being put in a position to choose between his two parents, that he loves and adores.. He doesn’t want to hurt either of them by choosing one over the other.. He knows whoever he chose, it would hurt the other.. After Thomas and Hope gave their speeches, both almost begging him to choose them, even going to the length of bringing Beth into it, putting him on a guilt trip that he has to think of Beth too, Douglas was overwhelmed, and you could see that..
At the end of the day, he doesn’t want to face the constant conflict between Hope and Thomas, and he knows, that he can trust Aunt Steffy to ensure fairness and peace between them.. He doesn’t have worry about feeling like he is responsible for that tension and can nflict between them.. He knows Thomas is outnumbered with Liam and Beth in the picture, and he just wants normalcy in his life, without all the negative emotions, and you can’t blame a child for that..
I don’t think his intention was to “Lie” to Hope.. I feel that after they gave their speeches, he came to the realisation that he was in a very difficult situation with a very big decision that he really didn’t want to make, and from a young child’s perspective, it was too much, and Aunt Steffy is a safe haven for him, where he knows that she can make “fair” decisions on his behalf without pressure or guilt.. he is smart, but he is still very young.. To say such things like he is ungrateful and that he lied, is just ridiculous..
And in regards to “it was ok” when he admitted he wanted to live with Thomas at Eric’s, Douglas knew they had joint custody, and it wasn’t a permanent decision if he changed his mind and wanted to go back to Hopes.. This time, it was made very clear by the judge that his decision would mean “permanent and full custody”.. that’s a lot of pressure to put on a child.. Thomas was wrong doing this, and putting Douglas in this position..
Colly it's bad writing considering how the character was built. He adores Hope and respects her above all else, he also is shown to respect honesty and doing the right thing. If they had folllwed the way the character is developed, once he had that "realization" you believe, he would have turned to his parents and explained and not literally turned his back on his mom and walked over to his aunt all "can I live with you?". I remember when I was that age and I loved spending time at my aunt's (also sister of my dad btw). And one time I said it to my mom, that I prefer to be there and in that moment it hurt me so much, more than her for sure, I haven't forgotten it in 25 years. I'm just not buying that Douglas with all his integrity would act like that without explaining. But maybe it's just me.

The Douglas thing was stupid. Why would he pick Steffy? That was not even an option. Pretty lame plot twist. But it does explain why he gave Liam the weird look when Liam picked him up the other day. I don’t see Douglas having some great relationship with Finn. So he must really love Aunt Steffy. But based on everything we’ve seen, that’s a HUGE reach. Not remotely believable.
Lynn the only reason that idiot Deacon wants Sheila is because he can't have her and because of Bill. His pea-sized, limited brain can't even comprehend what he's saying and what a life with her would be like. His daughter would hate him and the Forresters would bury him. And that's even before considering the actual threat - mad Sheila herself. As for Douglas - yawn. Like you said, even if he does move in with Steffy it won't last. But he probably won't. I just want to see Thomas next machinations 😁😁 at least the show is picking up again from that mud it's been since Christmas. We have something to discuss 😀😀
Fair play… Amelia watches Beth and Douglas for Hope quite often so he’s well used to that.
I also remember Liam and Hope saying how happy they were that he could babysit Beth while they were playing in the tennis courts at Brooke’s sprawling estate.
Thomas, Hope and Steffy are all working parents so that isn’t really fair to say Steffy wouldn’t take care of him.
He’s in primary school all day anyway and would see his parents about the same amount of time he does now. He’d have Steffy, Finn and cousins in evenings.
Actually since Taylor and Brooke are BFFs he could see both grannies at once when he visits at Brooke’s place.
For Douglas it is a fantastic compromise since neither Hope nor Thomas will honestly nurture a healthy relationship with the other parent.
As PP pointed out, Steffy is a blood relative whom he has known since birth and been close to. It’s not like she’s a stranger.

Douglas wasn't ask to choose anyone there, he was asked to choose between his custodians Hope and Thomas. Steffy is not part of this decision,she merely came along as an witness
Well then, he should have responded Disney World. Then, Mickey & Minnie Mouse would be his custodial parents. 🐭🐭 Seriously, the choice has nothing to do with the location. Douglas is selecting a custodial parent that will be responsible for his daily care. The parents are free to move to a different home at any time.
The choice had everything to do with location. The judge was quite specific when she told Douglas that this was about where he wanted to live (location). It was not about him choosing to be with his mom over his dad or his dad over his mom, or about choosing whether his mom had custody of him or his dad. It was about whether he wanted to live at the cabin (location) with his mom or with his dad at whatever home (location) Thomas was able to get. Douglas chose neither and decided to live with his aunt and cousins (location) instead.
The paperwork which was signed by Thomas and Hope indicated that wherever Douglas chose to live, that person would have full custody of him. As I said before, it was assumed that the choice would be between Thomas and Hope because they share custody and they are his parents. However, I do not think that was explained to Douglas. All that was explained to him was that it was up to him where he wanted to live. And I say that because of how Hope was all excited after her talk with Douglas about having sole custody of him. She was going on and on about the papers that Thomas had drawn up which stipulated that sole custody would go whoever's home Douglas chose to live in.
I think Douglas just wants to be in a place where he would be able to see his dad freely and that was the basis of his choice.
Brava Elle, the judge also it would be permanent until he was an adult. Knowing the animosity between the grownups in his life, Auntie Steffy was an obvious choice to feel safe, loved and supported and have a relationship with both parents with no pressure about his choice.
They both said they would honour his choice by he knew it wouldn’t be okay no matter what he chose.
The BFF between Brooke and Taylor is so ridiculous, especially seeing Taylor jumping around all happy like she is a teenager. The actress is way to young to play Taylor to begin with and is either giggling around or jumping in the air excited like a giddy teen. What grown mature woman acts like that? She doesn’t act like any mature, professional business woman that I know.

Finn is far mature than Liam and honestly, Steffy is a better person with Finn. Liam brought less than stellar qualities in Steffy and proved over many years that he is incapable of loving one woman fully. Hope could do much better; however, he’s her choice so be it.

All the comments about the look he kept giving Liam and didn't want to leave? He really enjoyed himself there but so far I've only seen that one scene so unless he has been there alot more than we see it could be a bad decision.

DeleteI agree Roseam. Douglas has looked at his situation from every angle. He loves his dad so much but he also loves his mom. And as much as he wanted them to be a family together, he realizes that is not going to happen. He has shown quite blatantly that he is not a fan of Liam's. I think Douglas believes that living with his aunt would be the least stressful situation for him. I applaud him for his insight and intelligence. And both his parents said that they trust in his judgement. Douglas also has the added advantage of forming a close relationship with his cousins.
DeleteI’m confused about the material things comment… Hope and Liam both have massive trust funds on top of their salaries. Hope chooses to live in the cabin on her mum’s estate. There is a swimming pool, tennis courts etc and they have access to Brooke’s staff. They are not exactly indigent.
DeleteThomas was in a pokey flat that Paris took over the lease on. The Forrester estate is lovely but so is Brooke’s.
One big difference in Auntie’s house is it is bright, the whole atmosphere is better. He’s not hearing grownups fighting about his father spending time with him, or being jubilant because they will win and have him to themselves etc.
There was always a push pull between Hope, Liam, Thomas and Douglas.
He’s not a prize to win over the other party and unfortunately that is what Thomas and Hope have made him. I’m not saying it’s intentional by either side but he’s very much been made piggy in the middle. Liam and Thomas despise each other and Douglas is well aware of that. He’s a bright lad and all the tension between Hope, Liam, Thomas and their families has be a huge stressor for a young child.
Honestly Finn and Steffy have been a neutral ground for Douglas. They open their home and he did actually stay over there previously. Beth is always welcome as Kelly’s sister and another cousin as well as his sister by merit of Hope adopting him… so he would see her.
It really feels like it would be more of a safe base for him to then visit either parent, extended family etc then return to neutral territory.
Again Auntie Steffy and Uncle Fin. stood up for him and encouraged him to be brave and honest. He can trust them … I don’t see a better choice for him honestly.

DeleteElle, I wouldn’t be so sure. I think Douglas chose Steffy’s because it felt neutral to him. His dad and adoptive mom both plead their cases, and I’m sure Douglas felt like his choice consisted of disappointing one or the other. And Douglas just didn’t want to have to hurt either.
DeleteChoosing Steffy gave him an out. Plus like we’ve all mentioned, he seemed really happy at Steffy’s the other day and didn’t want to leave. Douglas still isn’t happy about what Thomas did regarding the CPS call, but he loves his dad just the same. Hope has been a great mom, but choosing Hope over his dad was going to be hard for Douglas.
The only reason Hope was “breathing down Thomas’ neck” was because of what Thomas put Douglas through recently with the lies and manipulations / throwing his own kid under the bus in an effort to save himself. If I were Hope, I’d be doing supervised visits as well!

Steffy already has enough on her plate with the two kids she already has, a full time career, and this crap that’s going on with Sheila, Bill, and Taylor. Besides…she should not agree to anything without talking it over with Finn first. Oh, I’m sure Finn will go along with it…but he may not be happy with having Douglas living there full time. I know when Douglas was there the other day for a play date and didn’t want to go home, Finn said he was welcome there any time. But being welcome to come over for a play date and actually having the kid living there full time and being responsible are vastly different things! This situation might end up being the breaking point for their marriage. I also wonder how the rest of the family is going to take it? Especially Brooke and Taylor. This may be something that will really test their newly formed friendship/alliance. Or who knows…they might both think it’s great. Hard to tell. I’m sure Taylor will feel sorry for Thomas and Brooke will feel badly for Hope and Liam, but we shall see if the two grandmas can keep themselves from interfering.

He saw how Liam and Hope were just sitting there looking at them when he had that last visit with his dad. Even Thomas (sarcastically) thanked Hope for the supervised visit with his son. That had to be uncomfortable for Douglas.

That's exactly how I saw it. Douglas is a smart kid and he knew that his mom would want to dictate when he can and cannot see his dad. He may love his mom but he saw right through her. He probably even overheard her the night before gushing about having sole custody.

There was just a blank space on the document to be filled in once Douglas chose. So, they have, in fact, signed over custodial rights to Steffy since her name is going on the document that they had both already signed.

They kept saying that Douglas had the choice as to where he wanted to live. Given their speeches and both saying that they hope Douglas chose them, it was assumed by both Thomas and Hope that Douglas would choose one of his parents but not even the judge said that Douglas had to choose his mom or his dad. She explained that they both signed the papers agreeing to whatever decision Douglas made. Steffy was his decision and their signatures agreed on that decision. Steffy now had sole custody of Douglas.

I think after that visit with his dad, watching the looks hope and Liam gave Thomas, he knows if he is being asked to choose, he is going to hurt one or the other, and he knows no matter who he chooses, there’s going to be the ongoing issues between them where he is concerned, and that he will be restricted in seeing his dad after the way hope and Liam were yesterday.. he is a smart kid, he would have picked up on the tension easily, you could cut the air with a knife, and especially the way Liam looked at Thomas, like wth he doing here..

DeleteAnd he did not lie to Hope. Hope specifically asked him if he would rather stay 'here' with Liam and her (as in the cabin) or with his dad who she knew was looking for his own home. I thought that Hope was being quite disingenuous and a little manipulative when she asked that of Douglas. In that moment, Douglas said he would prefer to stay there. But the judge explained it a lot better when she told Douglas that it would be his choice as to where he wants to live and that both his parents have already signed the papers because they trust his choice. They also both said that they would not be mad at him for whatever decision he made. Based on this, Douglas gave his true and honest response based on how he felt.
Douglas knows that there is tension between his dad and Hope and he knows that he is uncomfortable with the things his dad does from time to time. However, he felt quite comfortable at Aunt Steffy's with his cousins and did not want to leave. It doesn't make him ungrateful or forgetful.
But I have a feeling that people are upset because they wanted Thomas to lose and Hope to win. And since most on here do not like Steffy, Douglas choosing her is a hard pill to swallow.
I agree totally Elle, Hope only gave him 2 choices. He knew both those choices were chaotic for him. Children can sense tension, they are not dumb.

Hope said the exact same thing that in his heart of hearts, who would he rather live with his dad or there with them. And he answered without showing any doubt or discomfort - here. Previously when asked if he wants to live with Thomas (at Eric's) or there with Hope and Liam, he was uncomfortable and admitted (knowing he's hurting them) - with his dad. Now there was no comparison, no doubt which makes it that weird. Douglas doesn't need a judge to explain to him the situation.

I keep thinking of when Liam went to Eric’s and demanded Douglas go back to the cabin.
Douglas has stayed over at his Auntie’s home. He loved being with his extended family which was not happening when he lived with Hope and Liam.
It has to be confusing that Kelly is his cousin except when he’s with mum and then she’s his stepsister?? Beth is his cousin since she’s half sister to Kelly, but his baby sister when he’s with Hope.
Also, looking at history, Auntie Steffy was there for him when Brooke, Liam and Hope wanted him to keep secrets from his family. She was also there for him and stood up for him at her parents’ wedding, when Thomas was again trying to make him keep secrets that hurt others.
Douglas may feel the only way he can be safe and have a relationship with both parents and their families is at Auntie Steffy’s.
She has a bright, warm loving home with two cousins and Uncle Finn whom he adores.
I don’t think that makes him ungrateful at all.
As mentioned by Colly, Elle and PP, He was given two choices by Hope, live with dad or live with me. He chose the lesser of the evils there.
The judge gave him the choice to choose where and with whom he lived and had making decisions about his future.
He had more choices then. He could have chosen his grannies etc. He chose the place he thought he would be happiest. He’s 10 what does one expect?
Honestly I think Hope and Thomas were both selfish putting a young child in a position to chose for the rest of his minor life… that’s horrible and he’s stuck with it once it’s done.
Both Thomas and Hope made it about their feelings and that was too much for a wee fella to be responsible for.

And in regards to “it was ok” when he admitted he wanted to live with Thomas at Eric’s, Douglas knew they had joint custody, and it wasn’t a permanent decision if he changed his mind and wanted to go back to Hopes.. This time, it was made very clear by the judge that his decision would mean “permanent and full custody”.. that’s a lot of pressure to put on a child.. Thomas was wrong doing this, and putting Douglas in this position..
DeleteColly it's bad writing considering how the character was built. He adores Hope and respects her above all else, he also is shown to respect honesty and doing the right thing. If they had folllwed the way the character is developed, once he had that "realization" you believe, he would have turned to his parents and explained and not literally turned his back on his mom and walked over to his aunt all "can I live with you?". I remember when I was that age and I loved spending time at my aunt's (also sister of my dad btw). And one time I said it to my mom, that I prefer to be there and in that moment it hurt me so much, more than her for sure, I haven't forgotten it in 25 years. I'm just not buying that Douglas with all his integrity would act like that without explaining. But maybe it's just me.

Thomas, Hope and Steffy are all working parents so that isn’t really fair to say Steffy wouldn’t take care of him.
He’s in primary school all day anyway and would see his parents about the same amount of time he does now. He’d have Steffy, Finn and cousins in evenings.
Actually since Taylor and Brooke are BFFs he could see both grannies at once when he visits at Brooke’s place.
For Douglas it is a fantastic compromise since neither Hope nor Thomas will honestly nurture a healthy relationship with the other parent.

I agree Douglas isn’t showing Hope the respect she deserves and has earned. Choosing Steffy to live with is random and would be considered ridiculous if this were real life. Steffy may not even want him. Lol. And you are absolutely correct about Finn. There is no Douglas / Finn bond that we have seen. None. Honestly, Finn doesn’t have much of a personality. He’s a nice guy, but kind of stiff and boring. At least Liam is funny and has more of a personality. Maybe it was before my time watching the show, but I don’t understand why Douglas would have any issue with Liam. Liam has gone out of his way to be kind, understanding and loving toward Douglas in every episode I’ve seen. Liam has been a much better role model for Douglas than Thomas!
So we’ll just have to see how this plays out.

DeleteAnd Liam has evolved so much, so many complicated storylines and to be honest, everything he says is to the point, while also being funny when times allow it (I LOVE his chemistry with his brother and his dad. The actor btw has shared that Don Diamont is like a dad to him in real life too, always pointing out to him what he can do better ❤️ no wonder it transfers so well to the show)

Douglas is selecting a custodial parent that will be responsible for his daily care. The parents are free to move to a different home at any time.
DeleteThe choice had everything to do with location. The judge was quite specific when she told Douglas that this was about where he wanted to live (location). It was not about him choosing to be with his mom over his dad or his dad over his mom, or about choosing whether his mom had custody of him or his dad. It was about whether he wanted to live at the cabin (location) with his mom or with his dad at whatever home (location) Thomas was able to get. Douglas chose neither and decided to live with his aunt and cousins (location) instead.
DeleteThe paperwork which was signed by Thomas and Hope indicated that wherever Douglas chose to live, that person would have full custody of him. As I said before, it was assumed that the choice would be between Thomas and Hope because they share custody and they are his parents. However, I do not think that was explained to Douglas. All that was explained to him was that it was up to him where he wanted to live. And I say that because of how Hope was all excited after her talk with Douglas about having sole custody of him. She was going on and on about the papers that Thomas had drawn up which stipulated that sole custody would go whoever's home Douglas chose to live in.
I think Douglas just wants to be in a place where he would be able to see his dad freely and that was the basis of his choice.
Brava Elle, the judge also it would be permanent until he was an adult. Knowing the animosity between the grownups in his life, Auntie Steffy was an obvious choice to feel safe, loved and supported and have a relationship with both parents with no pressure about his choice.

The actress is way to young to play Taylor to begin with and is either giggling around or jumping in the air excited like a giddy teen. What grown mature woman acts like that? Finn is far mature than Liam and honestly, Steffy is a better person with Finn. Liam brought less than stellar qualities in Steffy and proved over many years that he is incapable of loving one woman fully. Hope could do much better; however, he’s her choice so be it.
